Why You Should Avoid Piercing Your Penis

One of the most common types of male piercing is penis piercings. However, if done carelessly, it can result in infections and abscesses. The risks of penis piercings are great, but many people ignore the dangers and do not follow correct procedures. Below are five common problems that can occur with male genital piercings.

- Chafing: This can occur if the skin around the penile area is irritated. The edges of the piercing are likely to pull on the surrounding skin causing a mild infection known as "chafing". Scratching can spread the infection further and cause scabs that may ooze or bleed. If it gets very serious, the infection can affect the walls of the penis, which can block the sperm ducts. If you notice any signs of infection, stop the piercing immediately and contact a doctor. Common causes of this include friction or overloading of the penile shaft, injury to the skin or poor hygiene.

- Yeast Infections: As the skin near the penile shaft is irritated, it allows yeast to grow, which then causes infections. This can be one of the most painful infections a man can have. Male genital infections are known to take several months to develop. In some rare cases, the infection can also spread to other areas of the body if the scabs don't come off quickly. As a result, it's important to carefully examine your bumps after each bath or shower, and wash them in warm water with unscented soap, using a good body wash after each treatment.

- Warts: Warts are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus. It's possible to contract this disease from touching an infected person. There are also a variety of sexually transmitted infections that can come from skin-to-skin contact. This is also a very common infection that has been linked to the development of genital warts. If you believe you have warts, see your doctor for a proper diagnosis and treatment.

- Skin Rashes: One of the most common side effects of penis piercing is a rash. Usually, the rash is temporary and small, and will only be present while the piercing is in place. But, because it's on the skin, it can be easily irritated when clothing rubs against it. When the area around the piercing becomes irritated, a red rash can appear. If this happens to you, stop the penis piercing and apply plenty of anti-itch lotion to the area.

- Abscesses: The problem with having a penis piercing is that sometimes the area becomes so moist that an infection can occur. As it happens, bacteria start growing within the penis shaft, which causes infections. Although most penile infections are superficial, there are some that will require medical attention.

- Fungal Infections: There is also a risk of contracting an infection caused by yeast. Yeasts are actually naturally occurring organisms in the body, but they can become problematic when they multiply. As a result, their growth can cause a lot of discomfort for the person infected. These infections can develop in the mouth, around the nose, and in other places on the body. They tend to be quite painful, so seeing a doctor as soon as possible will help to get rid of any infections.

Although penis piercing is one of the most popular forms of body art today, it does come with its risks. Be sure to talk to your piercer about all the possible problems you could experience. It's also a good idea to find out if the piercer use sanitary methods to clean the skin surrounding your penis. Always take good care of your piercing and be informed of all the risks.
